About David Holbrook

Hi my name is David, I am a developer/designer from Minnesota. I like to develop neat things, and I have a passion for seeing dreams come alive on the web, both though design and development.

What's my backstory?

I have had a passion for creating great interfaces ever since I was first introduced to HTML 4 in 7th grade. Back then things were a little different (like table layouts were widely used, and JavaScript was grossly misused). But since that time, though, I have dedicated myself to the learning and producing of new ideas and solutions so that the web can be a better place for all.

The technical things that I have mastered are:

(X)HTML and CSS
The bread and butter of the web as we know it.
LESS
A simpler version of CSS that makes stylesheets easier to manage.
PHP based Content Management Systems (Wordpress, Frog, Drupal, et cetra)
These are what make a website in today's web manageable and workable. My primary CMS is Wordpress but I don't mind hopping around to different systems and trying new things.
Photoshop
Thought not a language, Photoshop has come to be the industry standard for creating webpages.

Some other programs that I use and endorse are:

Mac Operating System
I prefer to use a mac for web and graphic design and development, mainly because of it's nice interface and closeness to linux, that is the operating system that most servers use.
Coda
Coda is the main editor that I use for my code, I mainly use Coda for it's one window interface and it's scalability with the ability to add more than one view in one window. It is also handy for website editing with upload support built in in.
Firefox
My main development browser, mainly for it's huge amount of plugins and robust engine.
Byword
What I write all my markdown documents in (including the this one).
Snippets, Hues, Gradient, Sprite Right
Some one-trick pony that make certain parts on web development easier.
